Event Details

May 16, 2019

Mr. Michael Wood is the Director of Business
Innovation for the Space and Missile Systems
Center (SMC), Air Force Space Command, Los
Angeles Air Force Base, California. Mr. Wood
is dual‐hatted, also serving as the Chief,
Financial Analysis Division, Comptroller
Directorate (SMC/FMA).
In his Director of Business Innovation
capacity, he serves as a conduit and
amplifier of solutions to remove business
barriers, increase agility, enhance decision
making, and deliver critical business
capability to all areas of the SMC Portfolio.
As the leader of Financial Analysis for the
$7B/yr AFPEO/SP portfolio he and his FMA staff continue to seek efficiencies and
stronger alignment of resources with Air Force priorities. In response, Mr. Wood
implemented budget process improvements, including “requirements‐based” budgeting for O&M, more in‐depth execution reviews and the pursuit of support standards.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear our guest speaker, Mr. Michael Wood, talk at about his new role and efforts as the Director of Business Innovation for Atlas Corps, Space and Missile Systems Center.

Business Innovation is a new unit that reports directly to Ms. Joy White, Director Atlas Corps. As the Chief of Business Innovation, he is responsible to drive war-winning space capabilities by accelerating the innovation and agility at SMC. There are currently three linked lines of effort: 1) transforming SMC to become a data-driven organization using data analytics and metrics; 2) establish an environment that fosters and grows ideas with big impact across the enterprise; and 3) jumpstart the agile knowledge baseline and accelerate the adoption of agile principle and practices.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Wood was the Chief Financial Analysis Division for the Financial Management and Comptroller, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, CA. The Financial Analysis Division provides financial analysis to the PEO for Space $6B annual budget in support of over 35 major acquisition programs.

Prior Reservation/RSVP is required.

If you do NOT have access to LAAFB:
Strict registration cutoff on Monday, May 13, 2019.  Please register ASAP. Ensure you register with the exact name on your Driver’s License.
Security measures will require additional information upon registration.  (Date of Birth, Driver’s License number, State of driver’s license issue, and citizenship).

Please be aware that the Los Angeles Air Force Base will not let you enter if your driver license has the “Federal Limits Apply” marking in the top right hand corner. A passport is acceptable if you have this marking on your driver license. Note: If you have a Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) area badge, government Common Access Card (CAC), or military ID card (active duty or retired) you are able to access the base with these.

As of January 22, 2018, CA offered the “REALID” license.  LA AFB requires this type of license. If the license says “Federal Limits Apply” it is not acceptable for LA AFB. Whereas this does not federally take effect until October 1, 2020, the Los Angeles Air Force base security instituted this requirement the beginning of June 1, 2018 (extended until Oct 10, 2018). See CA DMV website for more information: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/newsrel/2018/2018_01

When renewing your license, you should specifically request a REAL ID driver license when making the DMV appointment and take the necessary required documents to the appointment.  Otherwise, a person will be issued the “Federal Limits Apply” license, which will not allow base access now and, after 1 Oct 2020, cannot be used as ID to board a commercial plane.

Upon entering the gate of LAAFB, you and your vehicle will be subject to search pursuant to the rules and regulations of LAAFB security personnel.  Additional information is located at http://www.losangeles.af.mil/securityforcesinfo.asp

If you DO have access to LAAFB:
To secure an available seat, please RSVP by 4PM on Monday, May 13, 2019

Depending on our sponsors, we typically have 10-25 Government/Military seats available on a first come/first serve basis.
