Abe Awwad
Mr. Abe Awwad is currently the Chief of the Advanced Concepts and Planning Division in the Remote Sensing Systems Directorate, Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA. He is responsible for the acquisition of the follow-on systems for both the Weather and Space Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS) programs.
Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Awwad was the Deputy for the Defense Weather Systems Division, leading a program team of over 150 government and 500 contractor personnel to provide worldwide strategic and tactical forces with weather and space environmental data to support air, ground, naval, and space operations. His portfolio includes the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Space System; its successor, the Weather Satellite Follow-on program; solar and ionospheric sensors, and supporting ground systems. Mr. Awwad was directly responsible for the acquisition, test, launch, and sustainment of these system elements to meet Department of Defense operational requirements.
Mr. Awwad entered the Air Force in 1995 through the Air Force PALACE ACQUIRE intern program. He has served in a variety of space acquisition programs to include Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP), Spaced Base Infrared Systems (SBIRS) and Space Tracking Satellite System (STSS). Mr. Awwad served as the Program Manager for the Defense Weather Satellite Systems (DWSS) and Chief Engineer for the Defense Weather Systems Directorate. He also served as the Mission Assurance Lead for SMC, responsible for independent assessments and ensuring launch readiness.
